City Engineer Department will commence the installation of manhole covers

Dear Editor
THE Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown wishes to inform the public that the City Engineer Department will commence the installation of manhole covers in the upcoming week.

This was revealed by City engineer (ag) Mr. Kenson Boston at Statutory Meeting held on Tuesday 13 August, 2019. According to Boston, forty (40) manhole covers have been made and installation will commence in the Albouystown and Charlestown areas. Councillor Heston Bostwick lamented the danger [that] exposed manholes poses to the vulnerable.

The Council has also determined that an audit on the manholes be done in every community in the City and all the man holes that are exposed will be covered. Previously, manhole covers were made with metal and they were vandalized leaving the area exposed.
The Council has now taken the decision that the covers will be done with pre-cast concrete since they are durable and difficult to vandalize.
