PAUL Bishop, 33, a resident of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, was on Tuesday sentenced to two years imprisonment by Magistrate Anneth Singh for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Bishop was on trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was found guilty of having a .32 revolver in his possession on October 9, 2018, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, when he was not a licensed firearm holder.

According to reports, on the day in question a police patrol in Freeman Street saw Bishop on a bicycle  acting in a suspicious manner. Consequently, the police conducted a search on Bishop’s person and found the firearm.

When arrested, Bishop told the police, ‘Sir, I found the gun when I was digging sand in front my gate.’

He was taken to the East La Penitence Police Station and later charged.
