The Constitution of Guyana recognises the right of every person to an environment that is not harmful to his or her health or well-being and the duty of every citizen to participate in activities designed to improve the environment and protect the health of the nation*.
The Environmental Protection Agency as the country’s lead regulatory agency has the responsibility to ensure that the public is informed about environmental issues and promote public participation in matters of environmental management and biodiversity conservation.
To this end, the EPA hosted a two day meet the public event which was held on Water Street in front of Republic Bank. This event was specially organised, in recognition of the fact that most of the Agency’s business is conducted with business persons and complainants. In addition, the meet the public event is part of the Agency’s extended 23rd anniversary and World Environment Day celebrations. People visiting the booth were given the opportunity to learn more about the Agency and interact with officers from the various programme areas.
