POPULAR security company, Sentinel Security Inc., has renewed its sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club/Gregory Gaskin Memorial Berbice Sports Award for the sixth consecutive year.
The sponsorship worth $120 000 would assist the club in hosting the prestigious award in memory of the late Gregory Gaskin, who died in a motorcycle accident.
Gaskin was the Chief Executive Officer of Cops Security Company before his untimely death.
Assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu stated that under the 2019 award scheme, five awards would be shared out. They are Berbice Sportsman-of-the-Year 2018, Berbice Sportswoman-of-the-Year 2018, Sport Personality-of-the-Year 2018, Association-of-the-Year 2018 and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The club is encouraging members of the public, Berbice sports associations, members of the Berbice media, schools, and NGOs to submit recommendations to the club’s office in writing or via email at foster_hilbert@yahoo.com.
A special committee, headed by veteran television News Editor and Sports Administrator, Gregory Rambarran, would select the awardees based on their performances during 2018 in their respective disciplines and role model status.
The objectives of the award are to recognise and honour outstanding Berbicians who excel in the sporting arena, to provide positive role models to youths, to encourage persons involved in sports to always strive for excellence and to promote the Say Yes to Sports Message to youths in Berbice.
Noreen Gaskin stated that she and Sentinel are very supportive of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, due to its outstanding work.
Naidu urged the Berbice public to submit nominations for persons who they feel have made outstanding contributions. The deadline for the nomination process is July 10.
Each awardee would receive a trophy, medal, framed certificate, a collection of prizes, and would be treated to a special luncheon.
