TRISHA Haynes, a 40-year-old cook, was on Tuesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for possession of almost 600 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Haynes, of Fourth Avenue, Bartica, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was represented by Attorney-at-Law Trenton Lake.

It is alleged that Haynes on May 18, 2019, at the Bartica Police Station, had 576 grammes of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking. Haynes denied the allegation, while her attorney applied for reasonable bail.

Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield, told the court that during a search at the Bartica Ferry Stelling, Haynes was ‘busted’ by police with the narcotics in her handbag. Mansfield explained that two parcels of cannabis were discovered and the woman admitted to ownership of the drug.

Haynes’s next court appearance will be Friday, June 19, 2019, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
