CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan, on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, remanded 34-year-old truck driver Kenny Paul to prison for allegedly attempting to murder the general manager of the mining operation with which he is employed.
Paul, of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the charge, which read that, on May 17, 2019, at Malibunta Backdam, Mahdia, he wounded Paul Troy with intent to commit murder.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that both men are employed on the same dredging operation, where Paul works as a truck driver and Troy is the general manager.
According to reports, on the day in question, Paul and Troy were involved in a heated argument. It is alleged that Paul became annoyed, picked up a cutlass and dealt Troy several chops to his left hand and face.
Prosecutor Mansfield explained that the victim is currently hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The chief magistrate after listening to the prosecution, remanded Paul to prison and ordered that he be subjected to counselling. The matter has been transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court for Tuesday, July 16, 2019.
