XIUOXI Qu, a 28-year-old manager of Fresh Co. Supermarket was on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, granted bail by Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for attempting to murder one of his customers.
Qu, who is a resident of 853 Block X, Section B, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which read that on April 22, 2019, at Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara, he wounded Gregory Samoogan with intent to commit murder.
According to the prosecution, on the day in question around 20:15hrs, Samoogan went into the supermarket to purchase a few items. After he left the building to await transportation, the defendant attacked him, inflicting a blow to his head and dealt him several injuries about his body.
Samoogan then went to the Golden Grove Police Station to make a report when he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The defendant reportedly went into hiding and was later contacted by the police and charged with the said offence.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Hewly Griffith, who made an application for bail for his client.After listening to the submissions made by both the attorney and prosecutor, the magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of $400,000. He is expected to make his next court appearance on May 7, 2019.
