LEON Andrews and Damian Waldron starred with bat and ball to lead the Guyana Defence Force to a 238-run victory against Ace Warriors when action in the Noble House Seafoods Second-Division Two-Day cricket competition continued over the weekend at the GDF ground, Camp Ayanganna.
GDF exploded with the bat after losing the toss on Saturday morning. Both Andrews, who captained the team and Waldron, who batted at four, blasted centuries.
For the third wicket, the pair put together 198 runs. Andrews, who opened the batting, struck seven fours and five sixes, while Waldron hit eight fours and seven sixes.
Devendra Lall eventually dismissed both batsmen, but not before Andrews had scored an even 100 and Waldron had hit 109.
GDF declared at 300-5 in 43 overs. Dameon Ross and Deamon Whitney had added 21 and 20 runs respectively.
In reply, Ace Warriors were bundled out for 113 in 33.4 overs after Andrews and Waldron combined for six wickets with their off-spin bowling.
Andrews finished with 4-37, while Waldron took 2-30. None of the Ace Warriors’ batsmen reached 20.
GDF then raced to 225-8 in their second innings, before they declared after 35.1 overs.
Andrews and Ross took the initiative early, after blasting a quick 115-run opening wicket partnership.
The skipper, whose first four scoring shots were boundaries, finished with 63 (8x4s, 1×6), while Ross, who scored 50, struck seven fours.
Whitney added 48 (5x4s, 1×6) and Colvis Sam (28) before GDF declared.
Raul Enmore, who got the wickets of both openers, finished with 3-75, while Lall picked up 3-57 and Selwin Collier, as he did in the first innings, again finished with two scalps.
With a lead of 412 GDF, led by Andrews and Waldron, were able to dismiss their opponents in 32.3 overs for 174 runs.
Enmore, who was initially able to manoeuvre around the off-spinners, scored 91 runs. The opener struck six fours and six sixes and looked set for a century, but a straight ball from Waldron struck him on the pad, resulting in an LBW decision.
Andrews finished with 5-85, while Waldron took 3-39 and Sam 2-46.
