THE Republic of Kazakhstan on Wednesday signalled its intention to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as a new envoy of the Central Asian country was accredited.

Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, CARICOM Secretary-General, received the letter of credence of His Excellency Andrian Yelemessov at the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana on March 20, 2019 in a brief ceremony.

According to a release by the secretariat, Secretary-General LaRocque expressed the Community’s appreciation for Kazakhstan in the area of water resource management. In acknowledging Kazakhstan’s support for sustainable development in Small Island and low-lying coastal Developing States (SIDS) such as those in CARICOM, the secretary-general informed the ambassador of the Community’s efforts towards becoming a climate resilient Region.
