A HALF-CENTURY from Niraj Singh undermined a century from Stephan Norah, to hand No. 73 Young Warriors a one-wicket victory over Scottsburg United, in the final of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) Trophy Stall U19 50-over cricket competition, on Saturday last.

In the championship clash of the six-team competition, at the Number 72 Cut and Load ground, Scottsburg United won the toss and batted first.
Norah was ruthless as he carved out 119 runs to lead his team to a respectable 258, before they were bowled out in 48 overs.

The middle order batsman hit 14 fours and six maximums in his innings. Support came from Akram Ally who scored 31 (3X4s, 1X6) and Chandar Bhudram with 19.

Leading the attack for the eventual winners were off spinners Raul Jabar and Afseer Hussain, who finished with 3-38 and 2-54, respectively, and eventual MVP of the tournament, medium pacer, Sarwan Chetnarine, whose two scalps carried him to 19 wickets in the competition. Chetnarine also tallied 152 runs, inclusive of his 26 (2X4s, 2X6s) in the chase.

It was Singh, who orchestrated the attack in the middle. The youngster, batting at three, scored 70 runs (eight fours), while opener Vettorie Lathman—the tournament’s leading runs scorer (170 runs), supported with 30 (5X4s).
Norah returned with the ball to grab 2-39. Rudy Jamalodeen and Daniel Persaud also finished with two wickets each for the second place finishers.

At the presentation ceremony, after the clash, the outstanding performers were rewarded, including Cut and Load’s off spinner Seiraj Chatterpaul, who finished with a tournament high 20 wickets.
