A HEADMASTER of Tutorial Academy Secondary School was assaulted by a suspended fourth-former, after he was told to leave the school environment at Savannah Park, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

The educator, Mr Fenton Fraser, recounted that the teenager was suspended last week for three days, and was told to return with his parents on completion of his suspension. The student, dressed in uniform, entered the school yard and was reminded to leave. However, he lingered, prompting a teacher to approach him and again ask him to leave and return with a parent.

Meanwhile, the close of the school session was delayed from 14:30hrs,to 14:50hrs, as it was recently observed that students attending three of the secondary schools in the New Amsterdam / Canje districts were engaged in fights daily along the roadways. As a result of the delay in dismissing classes, the head teacher ventured out of the school compound to inform waiting parents of the slight change in the dismissal time.

It was during that period that he again saw the suspended student and enquired why he was still around. At that instance, the teen used a series of expletives at his principal before punching him. Fortunately, several male students from the nearby School of the Nations were passing, and they intervened before the teachers of Tutorial Academy hurriedly rescued their colleague.

Consequently, the police were alerted; however, the lad who is now expelled from the learning institution fled the scene. The matter is currently engaging the attention of the Ministry of Education’s Schools Welfare Department.
