A 25-year-old Bible College student was on Monday, February 18, 2019, released on $200,000 bail by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman, whom he met on Facebook.

Samuel Whaul of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read in camera.
Particulars of the charge alleged that on October 25, 2018, at the Promenade Gardens, Georgetown, Whaul engaged in sexual penetration with the 20-year-old woman, without her consent.

Whaul was released on $200,000 bail and was ordered to keep away from the victim. The matter was adjourned until February 25, 2019.

According to the report, Whaul is known to the victim, since they had communicated frequently on Facebook.

On the day in question, both parties met at the Promenade Gardens and Whaul made several sexual advances towards the victim. The woman asked Whaul to stop and he became angry.

It is alleged that Whaul got on top of the victim, pinned her down and raped her.
After the ordeal, the victim reported the matter to the police and Whaul was arrested and later charged.
