SWIFT action by ranks in Berbice on Thursday led to the apprehension of two male suspects who were fingered in an armed robbery of a Chinese businessman in Springlands, Corentyne a short time before.
The men, who are said to be from Lodge and Werk-en-Rust respectively in Georgetown, were nabbed at a roadblock in front of the #51 Police Station. According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, the men pounced on the Chinese businessman who owns and operates a window and glass business. It is unclear if the perpetrators were able to secure any booty from the businessman, however, he was assaulted and hit to the head with a hammer.
Specific details were given to the police and they sprang into action setting up the roadblock with the intent of trapping the men. The Guyana Chronicle understands that the police were on high alert after intelligence was received about a planned robbery by person/s outside of Berbice.
At the roadblock, a white Toyota Preimo car bearing registration number PSS 8991 was detained with a suspect matching the description provided by the businessman. A further search revealed that the other suspect was walking along the roadway in the vicinity of the roadblock and he too was nabbed and taken into custody.
