Pearson elected as new chairman of Ravens Sports Club

AFTER almost three years of dormancy, the Ravens Sports Club of Richmond on the Essequibo Coast was reconstituted, following a special general meeting held on Monday evening at the residence of honorary member Latchman Rajpaul.

In the process, elections were held with Marvin Pearson being unanimously elected as chairman. The other executive members are Gary Ragnauth – vice-chairman, Ramesh Tacoordeen – secretary, Wazeer Dhanraj – treasurer, Jayindra Boodram – assistant/secretary/treasurer and Elroy Stephney – Public Relations Officer.

Pearson, who is the uncle of West Indies one-day speedster, Ransford Beaton, was also elected as the club’s captain with Jayindra Boodram serving as his deputy.

The third Thursday of every month will be the statutory date for meetings. Ravens Sports Club was once a successful and dominant force on the local scene and boasted a number of outstanding players including former senior national selectee Jaimini Singh, Michael Singh, Latchmikhant Narine, Dennis Benjamin, Mahendranauth Benneth, Tribuwan Roopnarine and Marvin Sukhnandan who served with distinction.

The first engagement for the club will be to participate in the Central Essequibo Cricket Committee-sponsored T20 competition which will commence on Sunday with various matches. (Elroy Stephney)
