ASSISTANT Superintendent of Police, Seecharran Singh, after spending almost two weeks on remand for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl, was on Tuesday, February 05, 2019, released on $250,000 bail.

Singh, 31, of Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara, during his first court appearance in January, 2019 was remanded to prison for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with the under-aged child, during the month of June, 2018, at his home.

Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, on Tuesday, when the matter was recalled, released Singh on bail, following an application by his attorney, Bernard DeSantos.
The magistrate, as a condition for his bail, ordered Singh to keep 50 feet away from the victim. The matter will be recalled on February 15, 2019.

The Guyana Chronicle had earlier reported that the teen was left in the care of Singh, during the month of June 2018.
It is alleged that the police officer made advances to the young girl while her mother was out with another friend and raped her.

Upon the return of the child’s mother and the friend, the incident of what took place between the teen and the police officer was recounted to one of the female adults and the police was informed.
