Court hears closing arguments in ‘Mango Man’ murder trial

BOTH the defence and State made closing submissions on Tuesday in the Demerara High Court, before Justice James Bovell-Drakes, as the ‘Mango Man’ trial is nearing its end and the two accused would soon know their fate.

After taking many witnesses in the trial, the summing up of the case is scheduled for Thursday (February 7, 2019) at 09:30hrs in Court Two, and then it would be handed over to the 12-member jury to deliberate for a verdict.

According to the State’s case, it is alleged that on August 30, 2007, the two accused, Sherwin Nero called ‘catty’ and Mark Royden Williams called ‘Mark Durant’, murdered Kumar Singh called ‘Mango Man’.

According to the indictment, the duo were among four gunmen who, back in 2007, invaded Kumar Singh’s Cove and John, East Coast Demerara, home, during which Singh was shot and killed.

Both accused had retained the services of defence attorney Nigel Hughes, while the State was represented by Tameika Clarke and Tiffini Lyken.
