Prompt action by firemen stationed at the Anna Regina Fire Station saved the A&S complex at Charity , Essequibo Coast from being gutted after a fire ignited on the building’s third floor on Thursday night.
The A&S complex , owned by businessman Alfro Alphanso , was partly destroyed by the fire.
According to the manager of the complex, Eric Gomes, he secured the building around 19:00 hours on Thursday evening. He said later in the night he received a call from the security guard on duty and the woman informed him that she suspected the building was on fire since she was smelling the scent of burnt wires.
She then related that she saw smoke coming from the third floor and immediately raised an alarm.
The firemen rushed to the scene after being alerted and soused the flames.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the inferno.
