AS the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ kicked off on Friday night at Pouderoyen tarmac in the West Demerara Zone, eight matches were played while defending champions, Show Stoppers, got off to a winning start.
Coming up against ‘Up-Like-7’, Showstopper won comfortably with a 3-0 score line with Dexroy Adams netting in the 11th minute while Marvin Josiah struck a ‘Guinness Goal’ (worth 2) in the 19th minute.
In other results Up-Top Bosses defeated Boom Bang 3-0 with goals from Amoniki Buntin who struck his first in the second minute and a ‘Guinness Goal’ in the 19th minute.
Genna took on Brother United and regulation time saw the score line deadlocked at 1-1, hence the game went to penalties, where Brothers United prevailed to win 1-0. Andrew Murray netted for Brothers United in the 12th minute while Bryan Prince was Genna’s goalscorer in the 13th minute.
Jetty and Phoenix Ballers also were in a stalemate at 1-1 after regulation time. However, Jetty took the victory from the penalty spot 2-1.
Continuing the trend of the night Bagotstown Warriors took on Young Ballers and either side failed to net a goal so the decision had to be settled via penalties which Bagotstown held their nerve to win 2-0.
A formidable side from last year’s tournament, Ballers Empire, needled Agricola through the boot of Jamal Hamilton.
Another exciting outfit, ESPN, put four goals past a hapless Dream Team who could not find the back of the net. Dennis Edwards in the fourth minute, an own goal and Tefon Daly (Guinness Goal) in the 18th minute were the scorers for ESPN.
The West Side Ballers also needled Rising Stars to get their campaign underway. Morgan Denny was the lone goalscorer in the fourth minute.
Action continues next Friday (January 25) on the West Bank of Demerara at the Pouderoyen tarmac.
