A POST-MORTEM, conducted on the body of the Surinamese businessman on Wednesday, has shown that the man died from shock and haemorrhage due to a gunshot wound.
The autopsy conducted by Dr. V Bridgemohan at the Skeldon Hospital morgue on Nitinder Oemrawsingh, whose body was discovered at the #63 Beach with a gunshot wound to his head on Monday afternoon, also showed that the deceased brain had lacerations as a result of the penetration by the bullet. The fatal shot is believed to have been made from a .32 pistol at point blank range.

Oemrawsingh, a businessman from Nickerie and who is the exporter of “Nivash Rice”, was recently wanted in connection with one of the largest drug busts in Suriname which netted some 2,344 kilos of cocaine on Tuesday last. According to information, the drugs were found in a shipment of rice that was destined for France via Guadeloupe at Port Jules Sydney in the capital city. Several persons were detained, including Oemrawsingh’s brother. Oemrawsingh was initially questioned and released and has reportedly been missing in Suriname since Friday.

Investigators believe the man was taken to the beach which is less frequented on weekdays and executed. He was discovered face up on the banks of the beach by police who were on patrol at around 16:20 hrs. A cellphone, believed to belong to the deceased, was found next to his head and almost US$400 was found in one of his pockets. He was clad in a blue armless shirt, a pair of black American Eagle track pants and a pair of black Nike sneakers. Police have also confirmed that a spent shell casing was found on the scene.
Now that the autopsy is completed, arrangements are being made by relatives to take the remains to Suriname in preparation for his funeral. Meanwhile, ‘B’ Division police have confirmed that the investigation is very active and ranks are working around the clock to apprehend whoever is responsible for the businessman’s murder.
