AN emphatic victory over Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) has placed them ahead of their opponents and has all but sealed the GCA-organised Friends of Cricket 100 overs Tournament.

After drawing their fifth game last Saturday against Eco Champs, the unbeaten side stormed back at home on Sunday to whip the visiting Malteenoes team by 123 runs.
At the Christmas break, Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) were sitting atop the table with 95 points from their seven allotted games, with practically only GCC (75 points from four matches before last weekend) having a chance of catching them – and they did just that after gathering more than 20 points in their two clashes.

GCC also have a game to spare which can increase their final points tally.
In Sunday’s clash, it was an all-round performance from Saturday’s century-maker Mavendra Dindyal, which propelled the home team to their emphatic win.
GCC won the toss and batted first with the West Indies U-16 batsman leading the charge. Dindyal scored 48 runs (5×4) and stabilised the innings after fellow opener Rahul Singh fell early.

The teen then added 57 runs for the fourth wicket with Romel Datterdin (46), before the latter and A. Persaud (29) put on a further 58-run partnership.
Both batsmen fell via run-out, which allowed the visitors to gain control and pick up the

last six wickets for 23 runs to leave the score on 186 from 53.4 overs.
Tathesh Shivrattan picked up 2-28 from 10 overs to lead the attack for the visitors, while five other bowlers finished with a wicket each to go with three run-outs.

Malteenoes never settled in the middle, only opening batsman Wayne McPherson (11) and J. Persaud (12) reached double figures as the home team’s bowlers did the damage to restrict the visitors to 63 from 31.2 overs.
It was Dindyal, who led the charge with 3-8 from four overs, while A. Persaud grabbed 2-4 from 2.2 overs.
