THE Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) last Sunday hosted its long-awaited Annual General Meeting at the Riverton Hotel in Corriverton.

Twenty-one delegates representing twenty-four clubs in the Sub-Association were present at the historic meeting where Dennis D’Andrade, who served as head of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association’s Interim Management Committee for several years, was elected unopposed as president.

The other executives were also elected unopposed.
They are: former National player Sydney Jackman as vice-president, Lakeram Latchman as secretary, Deodat Persaud Thakurdeen as treasurer and Lawrence Mentis as assistant secretary/treasurer.

The election was conducted by Neil Rudder, president of the Mount Sinai Cricket Club and a retired senior public servant, in an open and transparent atmosphere.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Hilbert Foster, congratulated the elected officials and urged them to work along with every club in the Sub-Association, even those who might be critical of them.

Foster committed himself to raise over $1M worth of sponsorship in 2019 to host at least six tournaments while assisting clubs with balls and white shirts during the year,
D’Andrade, in his acceptance speech, pledged to work even harder to lift the standard of cricket in the Upper Corentyne area.

Priority would be placed on organising more coaching programmes and hosting junior cricket in the area. Vice-president Sydney Jackman provided a comprehensive report on the activities of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association in 2018 – along with a detailed financial report – which was approved by delegates present.

The elected body will meet shortly to appoint other executives and committees.
