ENTREPRENEURSHIP is always encouraged amongst our people, as a way and means of putting an end to financial struggles. The young and old are often told at different forums to make themselves marketable by learning a trade.

There have been over the past months, several workshops and training sessions conducted to teach both the young and old, different craft in which they can invest and turn into a business.

This single mother of two is testimony that craft is worth investing in. She has been creating a buzz on facebook during this holiday season, with her exceptional bottle pieces for interior décor.

Denise Chapman, who said she enjoys cooking, cleaning and decorating the house, is a caterer by profession. But since she loves playing around with stuff in the house to decorate, she found herself turning her hobby, which is decorating bottles, into another means of income for her and her family.

She said the creative skills came from growing up with her big brother.
“I got a hang for doing interior designs because my big brother would do weddings, from the bridegroom’s suit, to both bride and groom cakes. Also, he would decorate the hall and I would work with him. So my love stemmed from there,” the woman said.
This bottle craft however, became a hobby that sparked from watching a TV show named ‘Good Behaviour’.

“I was watching good behaviour and saw all these bottles and I was like those bottles look good, maybe I should try something like that. So I started collecting bottles and with that, I started to do the decorative bottles for my home. My family saw them and loved them, so then I started doing them for family, and then friends as gifts. Then my craft/hobby just turned into a side job,” Chapman shared.

She said her daughter introduced her to YouTube and from there, more ideas evolved. She started posting her work on facebook and the orders started flowing in from there.
“I am not a woman of many words, but my craft can tell a lot about my style, I love vintage looks, antique-looking stuff, and that’s what my craft pieces project… It’s never too late to follow your dreams; and you don’t need a store front to say it’s a business, you can work from home,” Chapman said.
