WITH regard to the recent no-confidence motion brought by the opposition PPP, I wish to make the observation that it is illegal to cross the floor in parliament. Thus, Mr Persaud’s vote is a defection and cannot be counted for the opposition, thereby making it 32 against 32. So, it is a draw and in a drawn contest the champion retains the title; if there were another defection, it would have been 32 to 31, thereby defeating the government.
