THE Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) said Thursday that due to unusually high winds occasioned by bad weather, two utility poles fell in Berbice causing a power disruption in the County.
The company said in a press release that the poles fell at around 07:00hrs that morning, causing customers from Auchlyne to Moleson Creek on the Corentyne to experience an interruption in the supply of electricity until around 10:35hrs, “when a temporary reconfiguration of the circuits was done”.
GPL said that emergency crews were expected to be on the ground until around 17:00hrs, by which time remedial work should have been completed.
They also said that following the completion of remedial work, there was to have been a brief service interruption for approximately one hour so as to restore the circuits to their normal configuration, and that every effort will be made to minimise the duration of the interruption and inconvenience to customers.
