MELROY Simpson was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on Thursday afternoon by Justice James Bovell Drakes for killing his reputed wife back in 2012.
The 40-year-old man was charged with the capital offence of murder, which he pleaded not guilty to. However, earlier this month he had pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

Simpson admitted to killing his wife, Carmelita Jones on September 18, 2012. She was 25 years old and a mother of four at the time. The woman, who had reportedly suffered severe burns at her ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown home, succumbed to her injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on September 26, 2012.

It is alleged that Simpson had thrown a flammable liquid on her while she was holding a lamp at the time. This was furtherance of an argument over a pack of milk he assumed she had gotten from another male. His attorney had requested that a probation report be prepared before sentencing. After hearing same, the presiding judge then handed down the 15-year sentence.
