West Dem man charged for allegedly stealing TV set

A 23-year-old Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara labourer was on Tuesday released on $75,000 bail by Senior Magistrate Faith McGusty after pleading not guilty on a charge of break and enter and larceny.

Alfred Bamfield pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between December 13, 2018 and December 14, 2018 at Westminster, WBD, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Ariana Boodhai and stole a 32” Toshiba flat screen television valued $60,000 along with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) player worth $70,000 and a $14,000 gas cylinder.

According to the facts presented in court by the prosecutor, on the day in question Bamfield was intercepted in a taxi by patrol ranks at the western end Demerara Harbour Bridge at about 03:45hrs on December 14, 2018 with the stolen items in his possession. He was taken to the police station where the victim came and identified the items.

Magistrate McGusty however released Bamfield on $75,000 bail and transferred the matter to the Wales Magistrate’s Court for January 10, 2019.
