Dorado finish seventh at well-attended T&T Club Invitational

THE DORADO Speed Swim Club accumulated 227.50 points to finish as the seventh-best club out of 24 at the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) Invitational Swimming Championships which concluded on Sunday evening.

The FINA-sanctioned event had some of the better clubs in the region with large amount of swimmers competing. The Guyanese club, on the other hand, had several pre-teen swimmers in their 14-member squad.

In total, Dorado won one gold, six silver and four bronze medals in both the individual and relay events.

Raekwon Noel, who won the 800m freestyle, accumulated 58 points to claim a third-place finish in the 11-12 Boys’ individual division. Meanwhile Ethan Gonsalves, who won a bronze in the 200m breaststroke, finished in seventh position on 32 points, while Elliott Gonsalves placed 11th with 13 points.

Vladimir Woodroffe, like Elliott, swam only three individual events and finished 13th on 11 points.

All four boys were outstanding in the relay events.

Dorado also had a few standout female swimmers. Donna Carter, who won medals in the 100m and the 200m backstroke races, finished 11th in the 13-14 age division.  Carter swam only three events.

In the 8-and-under Girls’ division, Jasmin Allen, who had a number of near podium finishes, amassed 25.50 points to finish in fourth position, while in the Girls’ 11-12 division, Monique Watson finished tied for 11th after registering 14 points.

The event ran from last Thursday to Sunday.
