Keanu Marsh-Brown ready to ‘roar’ with the ‘Golden Jaguars’

WITH Guyana facing a must-win game against Belize on March 23, 2019, in the CONCACAF Nations League qualifier in their effort to seek their first Gold Cup berth, Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday announced that 26-year-old Newport County Association Football Club winger, Keanu Marsh-Brown, will be joining the ‘Golden Jaguars’.

The former Fulham FC player will now join his older brother; defender Ronayne Marsh-Brown, who made his debut when Guyana played to a 2-2 draw against Barbados at the Leonora Track and Field Centre. Guyana later had the result overturned in their favour, after CONCACAF ruled that the ‘Bajans’ fielded two ineligible players.
“To all the Guyanese fans, I can’t wait to play in front of you and drive the country to success. My older brother has played and said it’s amazing,” the nifty player stated in an interview with the GFF Media.

Marsh-Brown, who plays against new Guyana teammate Neil Danns (Bury FC) in English football’s League Two, further noted, “I also can’t wait to play and bring something different to the team. I’m an exciting player, I love to assist and score goals and excite people watching the game but I love to win. I’m a winner and I got high standards of myself. I will always give 100 percent so I’m looking forward to playing in front of you.”
Following the CONCACAF ruling, Guyana improved to 8th place on the 34-team table with two wins and their lone defeat (1-2) which they suffered against French Guiana in their last outing.

“The next game is huge for the nation to qualify for the Gold Cup. It would be amazing and it’s still possible. The gaffer (Michael Johnson) has done an amazing job and I’ve been watching the games. Every game has been an improvement in different things but the next game is a must-win and hopefully, in football, some results don’t always happen for them and could go in our favour but I’m looking forward to that last game,” the winger said.
Having played for England at the U-16 and U-17 levels, Marsh-Brown last featured for the Three Lions in 2013 for their ‘C’ United in a 1-0 loss to Latvia.

Asked about making the decision to play for Guyana, Marsh-Brown, who once turned out for League One side Milton Keynes Dons, called the decision a “tough one” but thanked the GFF’s head of recruitment Faizal Khan for making the move possible.

“You have to be patient with these kind of things because there’s so much paper work FIFA and GFF have to sort out to make sure everything is a go; and it’s even harder when you have played for England at youth level.

Stuff takes a bit longer but now it has been sorted, it’s over the line and I can’t wait to get started; but a massive thanks to all who helped behind the scenes to make this happen,” the former England youth player said.
