C’ville man makes bail

–in Ogle causing-death

A TWENTY-year-old resident of Campbellville, Georgetown was on Tuesday slapped with two cause-of-death by dangerous driving charges for the accident at Ogle, East Coast Demerara which claimed the lives of two teens last Saturday.

Umesh Boodram appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul and pleaded not guilty to the two charges which alleged that on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Ogle, he drove motor jeep PGG 8844 in a dangerous manner to the public and caused the death of Rameshwar Singh, 18, and Jason Harris, 19.

Boodram was released on a total of $600,000 bail on each count, and will return to court on January 16, 2019.
According to the police, the accident occurred at around 23:20hrs and involved motor jeep, PGG 8844, which was travelling east along the northern carriageway of the Ogle Public Road.

Eyewitnesses reportedly told the police that upon approaching the intersection at the Ogle Access Road, the driver of the jeep was about to turn right, when the motorcycle, which was travelling west along the public road, ran into it.

Both Harris and Singh, who were reportedly knocked off the motorcycle and fell unconscious onto the roadway, were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), but died early Sunday morning.
