Princes St. youth cleared of uncle’s death

NICHOLAS Hercules on Tuesday morning walked out of the Demerara High Court a free man after Justice Sandil Kissoon upheld a no-case submission made by the defence.

As he made his way out of the High Court in the company of his relatives, Hercules, now 22, was heard saying how relieved he was that the trial was finally over.

The agony for him began on November 26 when a mixed 12-member jury sat before Justice Kissoon to hear the testimonies of the ten witnesses who were called to take the stand.

Hercules, called “Bucko” had pleaded not guilty to the alleged murder on April 1, 2015 of his uncle, Carlos Solomon, during a heated argument at their home on Princes Street.
Holding for the defence were Hewley Griffith and Compton Richardson, while the State was represented by Lisa Cave and Orinthia Schmidt.

Reports are that the accused and Solomon both resided at the same address, when, on the day in question, the former stabbed the latter with a knife in the region of his armpit.
Solomon was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he later died.
