THE Municipality of Anna Regina in Region Two, Pomeroon-Supenaam, on Friday elected its fourth mayor to serve on the 28-year-old council.
Rajendra Lall Prabhulall, 58, a pastor of the Voice of Faith Miracle Ministries and a former journalist of the Guyana Chronicle, was elected as the new major for the town. He was nominated by a councillor of the People’s Progressive Party Civic, Jewan Persaud.

Deputy Mayor, Rudolph Compton Gladwin Williams

He was declared the Major of Anna Regina after there were no other nominations by Town Clerk Diane Chritchlow who conducted the elections. Rudolph Compton Gladwin Williams was nominated by Mohanlall Suelall as the deputy mayor. There were no other nomination and as such Williams was declared the deputy mayor. Prabhulall replaces Rabindranauth Mohan and Williams replaced Dharshan Persaud.

Both Williams and Prabhulall took up their positions in front as new leaders of the Anna Regina Town Council. The statutory meeting of the Anna Regina Town Council will be held on the first Thursday of every month starting from January,2019. Immediately after the elections were concluded, Prabhulall thanked the People’s Progressive Party Civic for giving him the opportunity to serve on the council. Prabhulall said he looks forward to serving the people within the township. He called upon councillors to support him in moving the council forward. He also pledged support to work with his fellow councillors to transform the town.

Prabhulall said his vision is to involve the people around the township and called on the elected councillors to represent their respective areas. He charged them to come with new ideas to the council and to work in unison. Deputy Major, Williams also called for support from all councillors in developing the areas within the township. His vision is to make Anna Regina the best town in Guyana. Williams said that cleanliness within the township is of paramount importance and that will be the top agenda of the council come January, 2019. Improved drainage, collection of rates and taxes, effective garbage collection and upgrading of streets are also on the council’s agenda.

Lone APNU councillor Darul Hakim Khan also congratulated the newly elected mayor and deputy and pledged his support to work with the council towards the improvement of the town. He called upon everyone to work together and to put aside political differences.

Representing the PPP/C on the council are: former Deputy Mayor Darshan Persaud, Jewan Persaud, Mohan Lall Suelall, Yadunath Doobay, Roseline Thompson, Bhagwan Lall Ramlagan, Harzul Bacchus, Deonarine Persaud, Mohammed Khaleem Ally, Bibi Nazmoon Husman Ally, Muhamma Rafeeq, Herman Amrit Persaud and Lorna Fitzallen. Representing the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on the Council is lone Darul Hakim Khan.
