Reports are that early on Sunday morning a cargo boat loaded with goods capsized in the vicinity of the Waini mouth in the North West District.
The boat was headed to Kumaka in the Mabaruma subregion from a Water Street wharf in Georgetown.
It was operated by a businesswoman whose name was given as “Nanda”.The incident occurred during the wee hours of Sunday.
While there were no reports of loss of lives, persons at Mabaruma told the Guyana Chronicle that messages were sent from crew members early on Sunday morning that the boat was on its side and listing quickly. Other reports are that the vessel was resting on its side when rescuers arrived.
Business persons from Kumaka hurried to the location on Sunday to assist. A Kumaka businesswoman related that she received the news around 06:00 hrs on Sunday. The Guyana Chronicle will provide additional information on this news story.
