A 28-year-old labourer and his father were on Thursday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for trafficking over 10 pounds of cannabis.
Quincy Charles and his 53-year-old father, Orwin Batterfield, both of North Ruimveldt denied the join charge.
It is alleged that the men were arrested at their North Ruimveldt Squatting Area home with 4.5 kilograms of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
They’re both represented by attorney Mark Waldron, whose application for bail was strenuously objected to by Police Prosecutor, Inspector Gordon Mansfield due to the seriousness and prevalence of the charge.
He explained that on the day in question, the police acted on a ‘tip-off’ and went to the defendants’ North Ruimveldt Squatting Area home and conducted a search.
He said that although nothing was found in the house of itself, when the ranks searched the yard, they unearthed a plastic bucket full of “weed’.
He said, too, that Charles even gave an oral confession to the police, admitting that the drugs were his.
The Chief Magistrate having ruled in the prosecution’s favour, remanded both men to prison until December 10.
