Auchlyne teen charged with murder

…remanded to Juvenile Holding Centre

A TEENAGER was on Wednesday charged with the alleged murder of a 29-year-old labourer of Whim Village, East Berbice-Corentyne last Saturday afternoon.

The teen is charged with fatally stabbing Desmond Sewdat of Sixth Street, Whim. He appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court where he was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

He was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre and will make his second court appearance on December 3rd, 2018. According to reports, on November 17th the teen and Sewdat were under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred. The teen related that he and the victim had an argument over clothing that was given to him by the victim. During the altercation, the teen inflicted one stab wound in the region of Sewdat’s chest; Sewdat died on the spot. Sewdat’s lifeless body was picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident occurred at First Street, Auchlyne Village, Corentyne, Berbice at approximately 15:30 hrs on Saturday afternoon.
