France, Deonarine win top performers trophies for GCA first division competition

TREVON France and Christopher Deonarine were rewarded for their dominance with the ball and bat in the just concluded Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) GISE/Star Party Rentals/Trophy Stall First Division two-day cricket competition.

Although the Guyana Youth Organisation (GYO) did not make it to the finals, the pair represented their club well.
Left-arm spinner France, who took 7-35 against GNIC in March, finished with 20 wickets at an average of 12 runs per wicket, while Deonarine tallied 362 runs at an average of 120.67.

France also finished as Zone B MVP. He was rewarded for his bowling dominance and for making 44 runs and taking two catches.
Christopher Barnwell, who captained the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to an emphatic win against Police over the weekend in the championship clash, was named MVP of Zone A.
The 31-year-old had scored 202 runs at an average of 40, to go with three wickets and three catches. In the final, he added to his tally with 103 runs.

Transport’s off-spinner Kevin Ross finished with the best bowling figures after capturing 8-14 against the Guyana Defence Force, while DCC’s batsman, Joshua Persaud, registered the highest total—150 not out against Police in the preliminary round.
The University of Guyana’s cricketer, Keron Sewnarine, was also rewarded for his six catches.

In the final, left arm spinner Totaram Bishun captured the man-of-the-match award for his match haul of nine wickets, while Barnwell finished with the most runs with his knock of 103.
