– for Christmas season

HEIGHTENED special operations by C.I.D and Intelligence ranks at identified hotspots have commenced for the Christmas season with a menu of other activities in order to enable citizens to conduct their activities in a safe and secured environment.

The plan was unveiled by ‘A’ Division Commander, Assistant Commissioner Marlon Chapman on Monday during the Guyana Police Force’s Christmas Policing Presentation at the Police Officers’ Mess at Eve Leary.

The plan took effect on November 15, 2018 and will run until January 15, 2019.

Noting that there will be increase in commercial activities in the city and its environs along with an increase in traffic, both vehicular and pedestrians, Commander Chapman said that Georgetown will be divided into seven sectors in order to adequately police the city and its environs.

He said there will be increased foot and vehicular patrols around such places in the the city as the Georgetown Prison, hotels, night spots and other places of business such as Banks and Post Offices. These arrangements will also be reinforced by road blocks and stop-and-search exercises.

Foot patrols will be conducted between 07:00hrs and 19:00hrs daily, but between November 22 to 24, and December 29 to 31, the timings will be adjusted to accommodate late shopping.

Motorcycle and vehicular patrols will be conducted on a 24-hour basis, but on a 12- hour shift system.

Commander Chapman said that the execution of search warrants will be conducted regularly by C.I.D and other ranks at the Georgetown Prison, the Stabroek and Bourda Markets, as well as at suspected drug houses and other areas of interest.
Each sector, he said, will be commanded by an officer or an inspector.
