A REMEMBRANCE Day Parade and Service was observed in Lethem on Sunday with Attorney General, Basil Williams hailing the sacrifice of those who fought in the two wars.
Held at the Cenotaph of Lethem Region Nine, Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo, regional leaders and local organisations’ representatives paid tribute to those who died in both World Wars I and II.

The traditional one minute of silence was observed at 07:30hrs wreaths were laid at the foot of the monument to commemorate the occasion by Williams, Regional Chairman Mr. Bryan Allicock, Regional Executive Officer Mr. Kerwin Ward, Officer in Command Mr. Phillip Azor and Captain Charles Bradford. Also present at the ceremony was Minister of Citizenship, Winston Felix.
Other wreaths were laid by the four other government programme heads: health, education, works and agriculture including private sector organisations of the region.
At the ceremony, remarks were made by Williams, Mayor Kerry Jarvis and Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock, while the vote of thanks was done by the Town Clerk Ms. Keisha Vincent Williams.
Williams, in his remarks, spoke about the bravery shown by servicemen and women who sacrificed themselves in the line of duty to ensure peace and freedom globally. The audience was reminded of the consequences and treachery experienced during that period that endured for half a decade. A reminder was given that we should never forget but to make every effort to embrace peace, love and harmony as nations.
