A 42-year-old man was on Wednesday sentenced to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty to having marijuana in his possession.
Police stated that on October 13, 2018, at South Sophia, Seon Fitzgerald had in his possession 76 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. The dhall puri vendor pleaded guilty, with an explanation, to the charge that was read out to him in court by the magistrate. Fitzgerald, in his explanation, told the court that he was coming around the corner and he found the bag with the marijuana. He apologised to the court, saying he was sorry and asked the magistrate to be lenient with him, as he was the only breadwinner for his family.
According to the police facts, on the day in question around 07:00hrs ranks were on patrol when they observed the accused acting in a suspicious manner. He was searched and the suspected narcotics were found. Magistrate Judy Latchman sentenced the defendant to three years imprisonment along with a $30,000 fine.
