Ramdhani secures CAREBACO Senior Badminton silver

THE Badminton World Federation (BWF) CAREBACO International Senior Championships concluded on Friday at the Ring Sports Center in Paramaribo, Suriname, with Priyanna Ramdhani securing a silver medal in the Ladies’ Singles category.

After a very successful run in the championships the 16-year-old Ramdhani came close to a gold medal. However, she lost in the Singles final in a thrilling three-setter to senior player Tamisha Williams of Barbados.

Williams won the first game at 21-17 but Priyanna came back strongly to win the second game at 17-21 before surrendering the final game and match at 18-21.

In the Ladies’ Doubles final, Ramdhani teamed up with Chequeda De Boulet of Trinidad and Tobago but they lost to No.1 seeded senior players Tamisha Williams and Monyata Riviera in straight sets of 21-15, 21-14.

In a release to the media, Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) president, Gokarn Ramdhani pointed out that “this has been a very good and productive championships for the Guyanese players as they will all get world ranking points that will help them to qualify for the 2020 Olympics”.

Priyanna Ramdhani – silver – Ladies Singles

Priyanna Ramdhani & Narayan Ramdhani – bronze – Mixed Doubles

Narayan Ramdhani & Jonathan Mangra – bronze – Men’s Doubles

The overall medals received for the CAREBACO U-19 International & Seniors Open International are:

Priyanna Ramdhani: 2 gold (U-19) 2 silvers & 1 bronze (Seniors)

Narayan Ramdhani:  2 bronze (Seniors)

Jonathan Mangra:  1 – bronze (Seniors)

The CAREBACO REGIONAL U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17 Championships will open today and the players representing Guyana are:

Priyanna Ramdhani (U-17), Isaac Mallampati (U-17), Vikash Mootoo (U-15), Matthew Beharry (U-15) and Mishka Beharry (U-11).
