Four teams to vie for ram (sheep) in 10/10 competition in Essequibo

AN action-filled day is anticipated on Sunday, August 18, at the Reliance ground on the Essequibo Coast. Four teams, namely Reliance Hustlers, Invaders Masters, Cotton Field and Reliance Masters will vie for the main prize of one Ram (sheep).

The 10/10 competition is sponsored by the Reliance ground’s committee and will commence at 10:00hrs. Proceeds from the one-day affair will go towards the enhancement of the Reliance Sports Ground which is currently undergoing infrastructural transformation.

Several exciting players will be representing their respective clubs, with former national T20 all-rounder Ramesh Narine and former national youth left-arm spinner Beesham Seepersaud spearheading Invaders Masters, while former national Under-17 batsman Rovindra Parasram and former Essequibo senior inter-county captain Dinesh Joseph will team up with Reliance Hustlers.

Cotton Field will have in their line-up the big-hitting Carlos Yapp and the talented Boomesh Ramdahin while Reliance Masters will rely heavily on the aggressive Basil Persaud and the consistency of Teddy Manchal.

Entrance to the ground is free as the organisors are encouraging patrons and fans to attend and witness an absorbing day of T10 cricket.

Meanwhile the South Essequibo T20 invitational tournament will resume, following the improvement in the weather. Young Achievers will battle Jaguars on Sunday at the Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance.

The winners will qualify for a quarter-final spot and will join Bacchus XI, Walton-Hall, New Opportunity Corps (NOC), Reliance Hustlers and Rising Star as the teams already through to the play-offs.

Cash incentives and trophies, totalling over $200 000, form part of the sponsorship in which 32 teams from various parts of the Essequibo Coast will enter the round-robin competition, which is being coordinated by Essequibo Cricket Board executive member Ramnarine Ragoobar. (Elroy Stephney).
