THE Sky Vodka T/20 knock-out cricket tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) commenced last weekend with two matches.

Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets defeated Rose Hall Canje by 65 runs, while Skeldon continued their impressive start to the 2018 first division season with a three-wicket win over Tucber Park.

Albion Cricket Club and Upper Corentyne were granted walkovers over West Berbice and Young Warriors, respectively. Blairmont drew the bye and as such advanced to the next round as well.

At the Rose Hall Canje ground, the home team won the toss and elected to field. Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets reached 130-5 in their 20 overs. Jason Sinclair made an unbeaten 41, while Andy Naidu and Clinton Pestano contributed 21 and 31, respectively.

Bowling for the home team, K. Ramsarran claimed 4-24, while left arm spinner Mark Sampson took 1-9 from his four overs. In response, Rose Hall Canje were restricted to 65 all out from 16 overs.

Sasenarine Sukhdeo struck 36 to be the only batsman to reach double figures. Shawn Perreira, Eon Hooper and Keith Simpson took two wickets each, while Sylus Tyndall, Clinton Pestano and Jonathan Rampersaud had a wicket apiece.

At the No, 73 ground, Tucber Park cricket team were bowled out for 111 off ten overs. Garfield Benjamin (33), K. Michael (17), D. Talack (14) and Marlon Mickle (12) reached double figures.

Bowling for Skeldon, Jermaine Reid claimed 4-5 from his four overs and Sherwin Murray took 2 25. In response, Skeldon reached 114-7 with Charles France top scoring with 51.

 Meanwhile, President of the BCB, Hilbert Foster, stated that he was pleased that the first division cricket season has finally commenced.

He called on clubs to get themselves in order. Foster further stated that those clubs which cannot follow the new set of rules would be left behind, as the BCB has enforced strict disciplinary measures regarding discipline and the behavior of first division teams.

The 2018 first division season will include the Patron’s Cup, Sky Vodka T/20, Pepsi 50 overs, Busta 40 overs, Brian Ramphal Double-Wicket among other tournaments.
