THE Pan American Health Organisation/ World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) in collaboration with the University of Guyana (G) hosted a five-day workshop for UG’s Faculty of Health Sciences lecturers, in the specific area of Measurement and Evaluation.
Resident Representative of PAHO/WHO, Dr. William Adu-Krow, said the programme taught lecturers to teach students how to use acceptable instruments that could stand the rigorous tests of the universal medical system.

Understanding the differences between measurement, assessment, and evaluation is also fundamental to the knowledge base of professional teachers and effective teaching, he said.

Such understanding is also, or at the very least, a core component of the curricula implemented in universities required in the education of future teachers, like the University of Guyana.

The lecturers who benefited from the programme commended the facilitator and said more of those programmes are necessary for the advancement of the medical system. Certificates were awarded at the end of the programme.

According to the Department of Public Information, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Emmanuel Cummings, expressed his appreciation to PAHO for hosting the workshop. He too said that “it is critical’ in light of the recent accreditation being granted, noting that “it also helps us to have a better engagement with our students.”
