… RTHYSC latest to donate under Patron’s Fund

 AIMED at imparting the fundamentals of the game at an early age, the Buxton ‘Carl Hooper’ Cricket Club’s Cricket Camp is billed for August 7 to 19, at their East Coast Demerara ground.

The two-week camp caters to children between ages 7 and 19 and sessions will include technical, practical, physical and off-the field actives, and will run from 09:30hrs to 15:00hrs

President of Buxton Cricket Club, Essie Peters, said that, while the camp is important for the youths in and around the Buxton community, sponsorship remains the biggest issue.

To this end, the RHTYSC of Berbice has confirmed its support.

The club made the presentation last Monday to former Guyana U-19 cricketer and National footballer Clive Andries.

The donation was made under the Patron’s Fund in celebration of its Patron, His Excellency President David Granger, who celebrated his 73rd birthday recently.

Andries, a past student of President’s College and Buxton Cricket Club’s most accomplished sportsman, collected cash to purchase a cycle, school bags, three trophies, a blender, a set of stumps, a pair of wicket-keeping gloves, a pair of pads and a bat.

The club was founded in 1992 and was officially launched as the Buxton ‘Carl Hooper’ Club in 2002 when Hooper was appointed West Indies captain.

They have been participating in East Coast cricket ever since and are ranked among the three top teams on the East Coast.

RHTYSC joins a list of sponsors which includes East Coast Cricket Administrator Bissoondyal Singh who owns Bissans’ Trading.

“It’s been hard to get sponsorship but we are hopeful that as the camp gets closer we will find more people to help keep our youths away from getting into the wrong things since this has been happening for the last 12 years,” said Peters, who has been the club’s president for the last 15 years.
