– BLB beat champs River View
A new champion was slated to be crowned last evening when the final of the Bartica Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition was expected to conclude in the Region 7 community.
Playing in the third quarter-final match-up, Jade Huggins 10th minute strike was enough to send defending champion River View crashing out of the competition at the hands of the BLB Squad.
Also losing was last year’s beaten finalist, Police, who went down to Disconnection Crew 9-1 in the Round of 16 action.
In the other quarter-final results, Almanac Kings proved who the real ‘kings of the street’ are when they beat Street Kings 3-0.
Goal Raiders then squeezed past Potaro Strikers 1-0, thanks to a solitary strike from Brian Browne in the 4th minute.
Disconnection Crew then edged Jones Avenue 2-1 to make the semi-finals.
The winner of the competition will join fifteen other teams for the national playoffs.
The national playoffs are set to be staged on July 27 and August 1, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac and Haslington Market Square respectively, while the final will be played on August 4, at the National Stadium, Providence.
