A POST-mortem examination on the 35-year-old Lethem mechanic, who sustained third degree burns to his body while discharging fuel from a fuel tank along the Linden-Lethem trail two weeks ago, gave the cause of death as complications of burns.

Government Pathologist Nehaul Singh found that he received 60-65 percent burns to his body.

The 35-year-old mechanic, Shawhinshaw Ally, called “Imty” of Tabatinga Drive, Lethem, Rupununi around June 23 left the coastland for the Rupununi. It was while travelling the fuel truck which he was operating careened on its side on the slushy roadway.
Reports are that Ally decided to discharge the fuel from the truck to another truck and while doing so using a generator to power the process, fuel spilled on him and he caught afire. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex but was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Reports from the GPHC suggest that the man sustained burns to most of his upper body. He passed away Friday last at the GPHC.
