FIVE firemen were injured on Monday afternoon when a fire truck bearing number plate PRR 1635 crashed into a daycare centre that is under construction at De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara.


Acting Fire Chief Jacqueline Green told the Guyana Chronicle that the five members of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital for treatment. She said that an officer was on the scene assessing the situation.

According to a police report, about 14:30hrs, the fire tender was returning to the Leonora Fire Station after responding to a fire earlier in the day at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, when it veered off the road and crashed into the unfinished facility.

The vehicle has been extensively damaged and the occupants, who were admitted to the hospital with injuries about their bodies, are said to be in a stable condition.

The injured firemen are section leader and driver, Troy Gravesande, 45; and firemen Adrian Benjamin, 24; Quinton Damon, 36; Errol Hyman, 42; and Bryant Bobb, 20.
