Youth faces more fraud charges

BASDEO Persaud, who was last week charged with fraud, appeared yesterday before a city magistrate on two other fraud charges.

The charges allege that on January 19, 2017 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, Persaud obtained $60,000 by falsely pretending to Bigram Persaud that he was in a position to obtain a plot of land, knowing same to be false.
It was further alleged that between January and August 2017 at Campbellville with intent to defraud, Persaud obtained $400,000 by falsely pretending to Mohanie Ramadi that he was in a position to obtain a plot of land, knowing same to be false.
The 22-year old man denied the charges.

And the Police Prosecutor had no objection to bail which was set by magistrate Fabayo Azore at $150,000. The matter was adjourned to July 25, 2018.
It was reported that Basdeo appeared last week before Magistrate Judy Latchman on similar charges.

The court heard that on April 10, 2018 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, Persaud allegedly obtained from Anarada Persaud $100,000 by falsely pretending that he was in position to obtain a plot of land, knowing same to be false.

According to the prosecutor, the virtual compliant went into the defendant’s real estate office to buy a plot of land and to make a down- payment of $100,000 and the balance she had to pay was $350,000. However, when the woman began to build on the site she was told that the land had not been sold to anyone. Basdeo Persaud denied the charge when it was read to him and he was released on $100,000 bail, after police prosecutor Arwin Moore made no objection.
