A 22-year-old real estate agent was on Monday placed before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence.

Basdeo Persaud denied the charge when it was read to him and he was released on $100,000 bail after police prosecutor Arwin Moore made no objection.
The court heard that on April 10, 2018 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, Persaud allegedly obtained from Anarada Persaud $100,000, by falsely pretending that he was in position to obtain a plot of land knowing same to be false.

According to the prosecutor, the virtual compliant went into the defendant’s real estate office to buy a plot of land and to make a down- payment of $100,000 and the balance she had to pay was $350,000. However, when the woman began to build on the site she was told that the land had not been sold to anyone.
The matter was adjourned until June 25.
