Rain pushes back opening of ExxonMobil U-14 football

THE inclement weather has delayed the commencement of the inaugural ExxonMobil/Pepsi U-14 Boys and Girls football tournament, set to begin today.

The tournament will now start next Saturday according to organisers, who had released the fixtures yesterday in anticipation of the start.

The organisers, Petra Organisation contended that the fixtures remain the same with Tutorial opening against Buxton Youth Development.

Marian Academy will play Uitvlugt, Dolphin Secondary will face Ann’s Grove, Bishops’ High will meet Annandale, Carmel will oppose Vergenoegen and New Campbellville will clash with Brickdam.

In the second half of the day, Tucville will challenge Queenstown Secondary, Chase will play St John’s, North Ruimveldt Multi will take on School of the Nations, East Ruimveldt will face St George’s and Kingstown confront South Ruimveldt

Play will take place at the Ministry of Education ground.

During a recent briefing, Petra co-director Troy Mendonca noted that with the smaller number of female teams, their competition would not start until the third week of action.

In the interval, he said, the Guyana Football Federation has offered to do coaching courses for the female teams and their coaches in an attempt to enhance that aspect.
