A PREGNANT woman appeared on Tuesday in court before Magistrate Leron Daly charged with manslaughter.
It was alleged that on May 13, 2018 at 14 Soesdyke Back Road, East Bank Demerara, Melissa Silos unlawfully killed 32-year-old Julian Anthony Reberio
The 28- year-old woman was not required to plead to the charge.

Prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objection to bail. However, he told the court that investigations were still on-going and a few statements were outstanding.
Bail was granted in the sum of $200,000 by the magistrate and the matter was adjourned for June 18, 2018.

Almost two weeks after she had lied to the police about her husband’s death, Silos reportedly told detectives that she strangled Ribeiro on Mother’s Day.
Ribeiro called “Yankee,” was laid to rest two weeks ago but relatives questioned the circumstances of his demise.

The crime was kept a secret until early last week when questions were raised about the various statements given by the wife, which did not add up. Silos according to reports had initially claimed that the man had come home intoxicated on the evening of May 11, and he fell and hit his head.

And, in another statement, she said she tried waking him up from the bed and he was unresponsive. But what raised eyebrows and blew the case wide open were the findings of an autopsy done by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, in which it was found that the victim died of asphyxiation caused by compression injuries to the neck… in other words death by strangulation. There was no head injury listed on the autopsy report.

After hours of interrogation at the Timehri Police Station, Silos reportedly said that she and Ribeiro got into an argument and in anger she strangled him.
